Johnson to ask Queen to extend parliament hiatus, limiting moves to block no-deal Brexit

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will ask the Queen to extend the period during which parliament does not sit, British government sources told Euronews.

New prime minister Boris Johnson wants to suspend parliament for around a month until Oct. 14 in an effort to thwart politicians from derailing his Brexit plan.

Johnson’s office did not immediately comment on the reports, which caused the pound to fall on currency markets.

It comes a day after lawmakers who are opposed to a so called no-deal Brexit met to discuss ways they could use parliamentary procedure to force Johnson to seek a delay to Brexit.
