A student fired shots at multiple people at a high school outside Bangkok on Friday, resulting in the deaths of three teachers and three students, while also injuring several others, police reported.
Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan informed The Associated Press that the shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, located northwest of the capital city.
He later advised news broadcaster Channel 3 that the shooter was hospitalized in serious condition and that fifteen other individuals were injured, two of whom are in critical condition.
The motive for the incident remains under investigation. Officials stated that the firearm used is believed to have been obtained from a member of the student's family.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul extended his condolences and announced that he had instructed relevant officials to attend to the victims.
Photographs taken approximately an hour after the shooting showed individuals outside the school offering comfort, while police officers and first responders moved within the school premises.
One witness recounted to reporters that students took refuge inside a classroom while hearing gunfire from another building before police officers knocked on the door and facilitated their exit.
Previously, in February, a 17-year-old stole a gun from police and opened fire at a public high school in southern Thailand, briefly holding people hostage during a two-hour attack that killed one person and injured two others.
In 2023, a 14-year-old boy faced accusations related to a shooting incident at a major shopping mall in Bangkok.
