Israeli Strikes Kill Four in Lebanon and Level Hospital
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes killed at least four people in southern Lebanon on Sunday and leveled a hospital.
The ministry specified that two individuals were killed in the Lebanese village of Arabsalim, while two others died in the city of Nabatiyeh. This latter location is near a strategic hill that Israel claimed its forces secured on Thursday.
At least 20 other people sustained injuries during Sunday's strikes, including three children and five women, according to the ministry. The strikes also resulted in the destruction of an empty hospital. Residents have largely evacuated the area due to the ongoing war.
The Israeli military stated that its recent strikes were a response to a drone attack conducted by Hezbollah earlier on Sunday against Israeli troops in southern Lebanon. Israel further alleged that Hezbollah had utilized the hospital as a command center.
While fighting has lessened across much of Lebanon since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect over two months ago, low-level skirmishes and Israeli strikes persist.
Yemen Government Recaptures Districts Amid Escalating Houthi Fighting
The internationally recognized government of Yemen announced on Sunday that its forces had recaptured areas in two key provinces from the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
Yemen's government reported regaining control of the provinces of Houdeida and Taiz, which are located along the country’s western coast.
Fighting affected the coast over the weekend. The SABA news agency of the country reported that on Saturday, the Houthis launched three ballistic missiles toward the city of Taiz, with some landing near civilian and police facilities.
Muslim nations condemn Israeli proposal regarding Gaza evacuation
Foreign ministers from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and five other governments issued a statement on Sunday asserting that any Israeli plan or action to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip would violate international law and undermine the U.S.-backed strategy for scaling down the Gaza war.
Last week, Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, released a proposal aimed at encouraging Palestinian migration out of Gaza. This plan reportedly included Israel compensating countries to help cover service costs for emigrants. This followed statements from Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, who indicated Israel was prepared to facilitate the removal of Palestinians via sea, air, or other means, noting that plans remained under discussion.
The governments described these statements as "inflammatory" and warned they threatened the "legitimate and inalienable rights" of Palestinians and the prospect of a Palestinian state. They cautioned that any Israeli effort "aimed at uprooting Palestinians from their land" would carry "grave consequences."
Previous efforts by Israel to persuade third countries to accept Palestinians from war-torn Gaza have seen little success.
